One of Ellen Manning's more recent watering holes was The Nest at The Watering Hole.
The Watering Hole in Perranporth is a well-known spot, having grown from a beach cafe in the '70s into a behemoth, serving casual food and drink right on the sand, with screens for sports lovers, an array of live events, and the perfect sunset vantage point.
Last year it added The Nest - the "only rooftop cocktail bar on the beach in the UK". Perched above the pints and pizzas, it has a bougie feel that's more 'lounge' than pub.
Yes, the cocktails are crowd pleasers - it's Perranporth, not Paris - but there is an effort to elevate things a bit beyond the basic.
A Pineapple Daiquiri is pretty good, not too sweet with a bit of depth, though a Passion Fruit Mojito misses the mark and is far too sickly.
They're not the best in the world, or the area, given there are a few good cocktail bars in neighbouring Newquay, but they do come with the unforgettable garnish of a stunning view.
