Julian de Feral, the London-based bar consultant and Milk & Honey alumnus, has become the UK brand ambassador for Nomad Outland Whisky.
The innovative González Byass' whisky brand, which sees Scottish and Irish spirit finished or aged in Jerez, Spain in sherry casks, is the brainchild of the Sherry producer's Antonio Flores and Richard Paterson of Whyte & Mackay fame.
De Feral said on announcing the role: "After 25 years in the industry (and a good chunk of that being courted by a wide variety of brands) I am delighted to announce I have finally stepped over into an ambassadorial role.
"Gonzáles Byass is the first company I’ve come across during my months of searching for a stable and fair job that ticks the boxes. The team are wonderful: well trained, informed, passionate, empathetic and understanding. And of course Nomad as a liquid and a concept is incredible, and encapsulates what I love about this industry."
De Feral, who has already begun his new role, added: "My first day was spent on a whirlwind tour of the stunning González Byass bodega with Silvia Flores, their third-generation winemaker. Following this: a one-on-one tasting and impromptu experimental barrel-dipping session in the original Nomad Whisky warehouse within the bodega with master blender Rocio Trillo Ollero. Which is a pretty outstanding first day by any account."
The long-time bar consultant said he would continue to work on freelance projects. "I’ll still be tinkering with your favourite bar concepts across the globe, training staff, writing, running events, fixing up sharp drinks for the thirsty masses and generally bartending… but I am very excited to work with the González Byass team in helping to shape the future for these utterly unique whiskies that exemplify the creativity and flexibility of the growing ‘world whisky’ category," he said.
