Kavka Tokaji Cask wasn’t only our Vodka Champion but a hair from being named the best product in the BBAs – it scored 91/100. “Wood, cream, vanilla, spice” noted judges on their way to issuing the Polish vodka a gold medal for its taste.

Gold was awarded too for its’ “modern, wine-style bottle” and for value for money. Boatyard, historically well-received in the BBAs, scored 83/100. Judges spotted “citrus, banana and pear drops” on the nose, with a “soft cereal palate” and a “fine finish”.

They enjoyed the “classy” looks when it came to design, giving it its second gold, before a silver in value for money. In third came BrewDog Distilling Co’s Abstrakt Madagascan Vanilla & Toasted Marshmallow vodka. Described as “light with toffee and vanilla notes, gentle on the palate and a clean finish”, it took gold on taste and value and a high-scoring silver in design.

In fourth was the Ricky Gervais-backed Dutch Barn Orchard vodka, the taste of which earned a silver (“subtle apple notes, good length”). The apple vodka took gold for its “back bar standout”, while the price was given the thumbs up.

In fifth was another from BrewDog – its Abstrakt Original vodka, which scored high silvers in taste and design and struck gold when it came to perceived bang for buck.
