Reviewer for the north, Dave Marsland stops by a bar of one of the biggest venues to launch this year - Diecast.

Diecast opened with much fanfare, taking a large unused space in Manchester and turning it into an events area and bustling food and drink venue called Leno Ex Machina.

Within it is the Rum Ex Machina bar concept, with a heavy focus on the Daiquiri. The claim is it can offer 49 frozen combinations poured from the 14 frozen Daiquiri machines on the large Italian marble bar.

The Daiquiris are fun and the flavours of the fruit come through – but not the rum.

Other serves are also available, from Corn & Oil to a handful of Spritzes, but the promise of a ‘monumental festival of rum’ comes up short when you lack any real focus and structure on rum as a category. The service, though, was welcoming and relatively speedy.
