Class' Midlands reviewer Ellen Manning stops by Medicine's latest location.

Medicine has been on quite the journey. It started life as a bar and music venue in Birmingham’s Digbeth, then closed and made a new name for itself as a bakery, expanding to four locations across Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Codsall. And now it’s returning to its roots with the recent launch of Medicine Nights.

The new concept transforms Medicine’s Mailbox location into a moody, low-lit bar by night, transporting you far from the stark lighting of its shopping centre home and offering wines and champagnes as well as ‘handcrafted’ cocktails.

There’s a play on the senses using ‘lemon air’, to longer drinks using homemade syrups. I go for a whisky, nectarine and egg white creation that’s smoked at the table for added flavour and theatre.

The drink itself doesn’t set my world on fire, but the experience is a decent one. A relaxing atmosphere, imaginative drinks, and a welcome break from the chaos all around.
