Parafante Liqueurs have launched their debut liqueur, Parafante Fig Leaf, the first fig leaf liqueur produced in the UK using Calabrian ingredients.

The London-based brand was founded by Graziano Madeo, of Annabel’s, and Matthias Ingelmann, head bartender of KOL Mezcaleria, who met when working at Dalston’s Untitled Bar.

The liqueur uses fig leaves that have been harvest and dried in Calabria, southern Italy. The dried leaves are then shipped to Parafante’s craft liquorificio in Harringay, north London, where they are macerated, blended, rested, and mixed into Parafante Fig Leaf.

It is the brand’s first launch in what will be a range of modern liqueurs using Calabrian ingredients.

“We want to reform the reputation of liqueurs as sticky, overly-sweet, and made with synthetic flavourings and colourings,” said Madeo.
